SEO: Google announces yet another algorithm update (November 2023 Core Update)

Google rolls out its fourth Core Update of the year

While the arrival of EMS is becoming ever more pressing, and full of mystery, Google is not idle when it comes to updating its algorithms. For the fourth time this year, and for the first time two months in a row, Google has rolled out a new Core Update. As a reminder, Google’s Core Updates are the main updates that affect the global way in which the American giant ranks web pages.
What’s surprising today is the frequency with which Google has been rolling them out over the last few months, even though these updates can have significant effects on the traffic of certain websites, and it takes some time to assess their impact.

But the company is keen to reassure. “Why another [mise à jour] so soon after the main update in October 2023? We have different systems that are considered essential to our grading process; this month’s main update involves an improvement to a different main system than last month’s.” Google also adds that its advice, given in July 2023 before the summer Core Update, “is the same for both” October and November updates.

The notification system will also be updated

At the same time, Google is planning to roll out an update to its Reviews Update next week, on November 7 at the earliest. It follows on from February’s major Reviews Update, which aims to encourage enriched reviews stemming from genuine expertise with evidence of experience with a product or service. However, once again with this update, Google is remaining very vague about the adjustments it is making.

Last but not least, Google will no longer offer “periodic notifications of improvements to [son], as these will occur on a regular, ongoing basis”. Nevertheless, if the system “evolves significantly, for example by covering more languages”, Google will continue to update its blog posts to inform users.

But should we expect further updates before the end of the year? “We try to avoid rolling out updates between late November and mid-December whenever possible. But (…) if we have updates that can improve search and have been developed over several months, we release them when they’re ready.”explains Google in its characteristic style.
